Good call center software isn’t “the one with the most features” — it’s the one that fits how you work. Here’s a checklist guide of what to check before you choose.

1. Routing and queues

The heart of a call center. Check: call-distribution strategies, priorities, overflow between queues, handling of abandoned calls. Without good routing, the rest of the features matter less.

2. The agent interface

Agents will spend all day in it. Ideally, an in-browser softphone (WebRTC) — no plugins or desktop client to install and maintain. A tab and a headset should be enough.

3. Real-time visibility: the wallboard

A live wallboard (calls waiting, agents available, wait times, abandon rate) turns supervision from guessing into deciding. Check whether it’s included or an expensive add-on.

4. Reporting and QA

You need metrics by queue, agent and interval, with history — for sizing and performance. Plus QA scoring to evaluate call quality consistently.

5. Recording and GDPR compliance

If you record (and most call centers do), GDPR compliance isn’t optional: consent, opt-out, encryption, pause/mask and audit. See details in the guide on GDPR-compliant recording.

6. Cloud vs on-premise

Cloud starts fast but you pay monthly forever, and data sits on the vendor’s infrastructure. On-premise gives you full control and predictable cost. Details in the guide on cost.

7. Integration and scaling

Check whether the call center is part of the same platform as the phone system (fewer integrations to maintain) and whether it scales to your traffic without redesigning everything.

Quick checklist

Queues & routing · in-browser softphone · live wallboard · reports + QA · GDPR recording · a clear cost model · scaling.

The Pentacomm call center ticks all of the above in one platform you own, with compliant recording included and role-based access for admins, supervisors and agents.
